Positive Thinking

Total Focus Life/ Personal and Business Performance Coaching

Reading the local free newspaper I was struck by the number of advertisements of

“How to lose weight in 2008”

“How to stop smoking”

“How to make a better life for yourself”

etc etc...

It seems that no sooner is Christmas over than we are on to the next thing, making New Year’s resolutions. Statistically the majority of New Year’s resolutions are broken by the end of January. Often we make these resolutions or goals in haste, without thinking what we want or how to get there.

A suggestion would be to spend January thinking about the successes you achieved in 2007. Perhaps look at your successes under the heading on the Wheel of Life – career, finance, personal development, friends and family, your surroundings both at home and at work, fun and recreation, health and romance. Here in this newsletter we are looking at four different headings.

Family and friends, career/work, health and personal development. We have listed a few questions under each of the four headings to get you started looking back over 2007. At the end of each section ask yourself the following three questions

What did you accomplish?

what are you proud of?

and

What are you grateful for?

Family and Friends – lets look at what went well in 2007

Did you have a great summer holidays with your family?

Did you meet someone who is now a friend?

Did you meet a new partner or have you spent a happy year with your husband/ wife/partner?

Recall the happy events with your family and friends during 2007 – write then down! Maybe there were some less positive things that happened – take some time to reflect upon these, in other words what did I learn from this incidence?

Work in 2007

Were you promoted in 2007?

Did you get a wage increase?

Did you set yourself up in your own business?

Did you move to a new job?

Health

Were you healthy in 2007? (and here I will quote the cliché ‘your health is your wealth’)

If you have been unwell during 2007 how did you cope with it?

Personal Development

How did you grow as a person during 2007?

What changes did you make in your life?

Did you read any book or articles, or see something on the news or a movie that made you think or more importantly make you take action?

So...

Forget (for the time being) what you want to achieve in 2008 and allow yourself the pleasure of looking back over the last year, congratulate yourself, be proud of your achievements for the past year and use these to build for the future

Have a happy and prosperous new year from all of us at Total Focus
